Anneke van Giersbergen & Danny Cavanagh in Tilburg @ “Little Devil” en

Guess what, I like Dutch bands and artists, especially one of them. And she was planning to play an acoustic show again. Actually she was planning to play two shows, but seeing the same show twice is a bit too much, even for me.

It should be a show like last year when Anneke van Giersbergen and Danny Cavanagh played in Stockholm. This time I had to go to Tilburg heading for “Little Devil“.

The ticket for the train was a gift from “die Bahn” this time. I’ve got a bonus for travelling so much in the last few years. Fair enough..

To avoid a weird night outside like in Eindhoven last October i did a reservation at “Het Wapen van Tilburg“. It’s a budget hotel with small rooms, two beds and a sink inside. Everything else needs to be shared with all the others staying at the hotel. Ok, it was just for one night.

Once I was in Tilburg I wanted to see the city, so I did a long walk in the sun the whole afternoon. For dinner I had an appointment with Mariska and Michael. The pizza was good, but there where some difficulties finding a parking site and some trouble with the banking card. Good advice: Just be careful where you put your card in. Sometimes someone tries to copy your card with some add ons to the machines.

The beginning of the show was announced for half past eight, but we were waiting much longer until we could enter the little venue. Unfortunately we were some of the last coming in and couldn’t see anything of Leafblade and Dannys solo show. It was a bit like standing at a bar with some live music. It was not exactly the thing we came for.

When Anneke entered the stage the crowd moved a bit and some guys left and we could get better places and saw a bit more than in last row. Using my camera as a monitor let the guys behind me see something for some moments. There were songs of Air / Pure Air played and some specials that are played only at acoustic shows.

And she played “Sunny Side up” the “one hour song”. This song was written in just one hour during a radio show, where the listeners choose a title and the artist will write a song out of this title.

Without any break after Annekes set Danny entered the stage for the last part of the evening, when they played together. It was a mix of Anathema, Massive Attack, The Gathering and some other songs. The show was finished with “Jolene”, a song by Dolly Parton, that was sung by the audience along with the musicians on stage.

After the show I had the chance for a little chat with Anneke, and I heard that we may see Agua de Annique in Germany soon. If there are more news to tell, I will post this here for sure.

Besides the little problems in the beginning it became a nice show after all. Due to meeting friends the evening itself was a win already.

Dank u wel.

Nice report. I was lucky to be early and have a good spot to see everything very well. Thank you for uploading “Sunny Side Up”. And good that you left the conversation prior to the song in there as well, although probably only the Dutch will know why there was so much laughter.

Hello i was there too both nights!
About ‘Sunny Side Up’. Anneke was telling the story behind this song. The radio show in which ‘Sunny side up’ was made is from the Dutch EO (Evangelische Omroep) which is Christian. So Anneke got to chose a song titel from a lot of titles and she said ‘Jesus’… then the DJ (Miranda) said… ‘Yes, that’s who we work for ;). So Anneka got away with that…
Well, it’s difficult to explain a joke but i hope you get some idea now where the laughter was all about.
